Project Workshop – City, Water, Territory
From the hills to the plain, through the city: water reshapes the land of Rosheim

Publication dans L’analyse d’ingénieurs et architectes de demain sur les besoins du territoire, DNA. 2024

Project carried out as part of the ENSAS project workshop, exploring the connections between landscape, urban planning, and water management in the Rosheim region.
A collective reflection on ecological continuities, water usage, and the transformation of the territory.
The Water, City, Landscape workshop has been associating the School of Architecture (ENSAS) and the National School of Water Engineering and Environmental Sciences of Strasbourg (ENGEES) since 2019. Each year, from September to January, it offers students from both schools the opportunity to study concrete issues and territories at a double confluence: a physical confluence, that of the many rivers that traverse the Alsatian territories, and a thematic confluence, blending hydrological, ecological, and urban challenges.
During the winter semester of 2023-24, ENSAS students focused on the territory of Rosheim and the Rosenmeer basin, within the Community of Communes of Portes de Rosheim.

From the depths to the sky – Architectural Transformation Project

Screenshot from the Supra Order website — An online platform dedicated to research, documentation, and experimentation around contemporary architecture and its systems of representation.

The project "From the Depths to the Sky" focuses on the transformation of an abandoned parking lot in the Cité Moderne in Brussels into a primary school. Designed to address the specific challenges of the site, it aims to create a strong connection between the architecture, the residents of the neighborhood, and the social and urban issues surrounding it.
The project's atmosphere revolves around two contrasting universes: the cave and the sky. This contrast between dark, intimate, and "tight" spaces (like caves) and open spaces conducive to freedom and openness towards the sky creates a sensual and immersive experience in each space of the project. These characteristics are designed to evoke both human roots and essential vital needs: shadow and light.
The goal is to breathe new life into an abandoned space while honoring the fundamental principles of nature and living spaces. The school is thus created not only as a place of learning but also as a place of transformation and dialogue with its environment.
